Soccer Round II

When Parker was 3 we put him in soccer. Being our oldest I thought certain he was ready and later found rarely is a 3 year old ready to grasp the concept of soccer. The kids on his team would sit and pick grass, walk along the white lines on the field or bat at flies above them. We therefore decided to keep him out of soccer for age 4 and try again at age 5.

And I am pleased to say he has made marked improvement. He has yet to score a goal, or come close for that matter. But he actually chases the ball, kicks it occasionally, throws the ball in from the side and knows which direction his team is going. The unfortunate part is that there are literally 18 kids on his team and only 6 or so play on the field at a time, so there is a lot of sitting on the side with his teammates. He doesn't mind and seems to enjoy the water break :). I really think each year he will improve and it will be more and more fun to watch him play. He asked me last week why I cheer for the other kids on his team sometimes when I don't even know them. He said really I should only be cheering for him. So I told him I would cheer extra loud for him at that game. He seemed pleased. :)

His number one fans...his sisters, who never miss a game! We are off for doughnuts and a busy Saturday! :)
